Listening to Coltrane Live

Long i & short

līve & lĭve

Trane on soprano sax

Manta rays of light

  Afro-Blue

glide through oceanic smoke

Elvin bashing dazzle

McCoy chiming chunky

  Jimmy thunk-thunking

    his music

is one of the reasons that suicide

    seems so boring

I dream an African-Indian painting

  moons  suns

testes  ovaries

  orange  yellow  green

lined in black

flowing

The veins in Trane’s hands

  tributaries

of Langston’s known rivers

on and on like the wild pulse of all living

*

McCoy’s piano shimmer

like the opening of Beethoven’s Ninth

a fattening thunder, storm clouds

  misterioso

  Monk comes

  to mind

    tangentially  of course

continued
